You’re invited to visit us at Covenant Reformed Baptist Church, starting at 11 AM at the Providence gym. We are Danville's / Caswell County's Reformed Church, a modern Puritan church. We're committed to the doctrines of grace, the marks of a healthy church, Sola Scriptura, Biblical worship (including singing Psalms), meaningful membership (including church discipline), expository preaching through the whole counsel of God, the sovereignty of God, evangelism, etc.
Reverent in Reaching Up, Relevant in Reaching Out
Our Distinctives
Reformed: We believe in the doctrines of grace, that salvation is by the sovereign mercy of God and not by human will or works (Romans 9:16), and that when we gather for worship we do so with God at the center, careful to worship in Spirit and in truth – the truth of His Word (John 4:23, John 17:17) – and that the church should be organized Biblically, with meaningful membership.
Confessional: We hold to the 1833 New Hampshire Baptist Confession, the pastor generally subscribes to the 1689 London Baptist Confession, and we recite the Nicene Creed once a month.
Covenantal: We believe God made a covenant to save His one people and has perfectly fulfilled it. We believe a church is held together by the members’ covenant to each other. We practice the local church covenant.
Seven Pillars
Expository Preaching: through the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:17-25):
Knowing God: God according to God, the full revelation (Exodus 34:5-7).
Biblical Gospel: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone (Romans 1:16-17).
Genuine Conversion: being born again makes a change (Luke 19:1-10).
Meaningful Membership: being part of the Body; every member is an attendee and all attendees are (eventually) members (Hebrews 10:19-25).
Leadership & Followership: we’re a congregational church that follows scripture’s instructions for leadership (1 Timothy 5:17-19).
God-Centered Worship: acceptable singing Psalms, etc. (Hebrews 12:28).

Pastor
Pastor John Carpenter was raised in the South on BBQ and college football. He was a nominal Christian, going through a perfunctory baptism at age 13 which made no change in his life. That life was radically changed when he was born again at age 15 when he gave his life as a “living sacrifice” to serve the Lord (Romans 12:1.) He graduated from Samford University (BA), where he was also a track athlete. He studied at Fuller Theological Seminary (M.Div.) where he met his wife Mary, from Singapore. He also studied at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Th.M.) and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (Ph.D.). He is a student of scripture and a Church historian, focusing on the Puritans, the author of Seven Pillars of a Biblical Church (Wipf & Stock, 2022) and, with his wife, Mary, a former missionary to Ethiopia.
You can buy it here or at Karen’s Hallmark Store at the Danville mall.

Why Covenant?
We’re “Covenant” because that is what God made with His people so that we will be saved: a covenant based on the Lord’s gracious work. God made promises that He fulfilled in the New Covenant the Lord Jesus established in His blood. Further, we’re called to be in covenant relationships with each other, as church members, committed to being in a body, walking together in Christian love.
“You must be born again.”
(The Lord Jesus, John 3:3)
“What’s the gospel? I’ll put it in a sentence. The Gospel is the news that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died for our sins and rose again, eternally triumphant over all his enemies, so that there is now no condemnation for those who believe, but only everlasting joy.
That’s the gospel.” (John Piper)
“For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25)
